Jean Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote Du Py

Country: France Region: Beaujolais Vintage: 2023

Varietal: Gamay

 Colour: Red Style: Dry

Producer: Jean-Marc Burgaud

Description:
Jean-Marc Burgaud was recently dubbed ‘Monsieur Côte du Py’ by Bourgogne Aujourd’hui magazine. In January 2025 James Suckling announced his Top 100 Best Value Wines of 2024 and this Wine came in first place - winning 'Overall Best Value Wine In The World 2024' for the 2022 vintage by the critic. The 2022 and 2023 vintage of the wine are long since sold out, owing to the demand created by winning such an award. However, we have sourced a number of cases of the 2023 vintage which will show well now, but be capable of cellaring through 2030.

Jean Marc owns seven hectares on the Côte du Py slope which makes him the largest owner of vines on this most famed hill of Morgon. The slope is one of the few outcrops of schist and decomposed blue rock in Beaujolais. It produces wines of intense power and greater structure than most associate with this region. Jean Marc's vines were planted in 1960 with a massal selection and are gobelet trained and planted at a high density to reduce the Gamay's natural vigour and increase concentration. The Morgon Côte du Py displays intense aromas of fresh red cherry and plum fruit and a rich and deeply concentrated palate with finely-tuned tannins and a long mineral finish. This wine's intensity, coupled with its freshness and balance, shows why this hill is so famous, and why Burgaud is held in such high esteem.
