Marques de Penamonte Collecion Privada
Country: Spain Region: Toro
Varietal: Tina de Toro (Tempranillo) Vintage: 2021
Colour: Red Style: Dry
Producer: Bodegas Covitoro
Description:
Toro is a lesser-known region of Spain but home to some of its finest wines made from the Tinta de Toro grape, the original un-grafted variety of the Tempranillo grape, which produces wine with more colour and higher tannin levels than Tempranillo elsewhere in Spain. Traditionally associated with bullfighting and bull running and for its gusty robust reds, the region is now producing more elegant and modern wines.
The Artacho family had a deep wine tradition when in 1890 they founded Bodegas Riojanas together with Rafael Carreras. Signs of this tradition are the stone door built in 1799 to provide access to the family vineyards and is now preserved at the entrance to our winery, and very specially the prizes awarded to their wines before that foundation, as the golden of the Universal Exposition in Barcelona in 1888.
Tasting Note:
The wine is a dark, brilliant garnet red. Seductive ripe fruit aromas (wild blackberries) with toasted and smoky notes. Warm, deep, serious, velvety.
